Respecting Differences /
Anti-Discrimination

The subject of this workshop is one of four core topics that the Joint Learning Program has chosen to highlight. It reflects the parties' commitment to diversity within the Federal public service.

Building an inclusive environment means more than being aware of differences and practicing civility in our working relationships. It requires a higher level of excellence, one that emerges from harnessing the power of mutual respect and understanding. During this workshop, we will examine what is meant by diversity why "diversity competence" is an individual and organizational necessity.

We will explore how unconscious biases or assumptions impair our ability to work effectively with others and limit our lives. From a legal perspective, we will look at the various roles and responsibilities for adopting strategies to ensure an inclusive and discrimination-free workplace.

Using various exercises and case studies, we will practise skills to deal with the challenges of facing diversity in a reflective, responsible and proactive manner. Over the course of the learning event, we will seize these opportunities to identify actions and recommendations for both individual and organizational implementation.
