JLP taking part in the Canadian Coast Guard Indigenous Peoples Day Activities

The JLP was invited to participate in Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations. This included a Human Library, which is a unique opportunity to create dialogue, share perspectives, and challenge perceptions in an engaging and supportive environment.

Karla Backer, Regional Field Coordinator for the JLP British Columbia and Yukon Region attended the event and felt very fortunate to have had an opportunity to witness the fascinating Human Library. The display was designed so that six individuals acted as “resource books” that participants could reference. These individuals had the opportunity to share their depth of experience and cultural knowledge with Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike in 20 minute intervals.

The JLP also hosted a kiosk at the event and presented the benefits of becoming a JLP facilitator. The workshop on Respecting Differences/Anti-Discrimination was highlighted as an important topic that can contribute to improved workplace environments. The JLP is thankful for the opportunity to have taken part in these celebrations and is proud to support diversity in the workplace.
