Stand up for Human Rights
December 10, 2018, marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This Declaration marks the commitment of countries around the world to recognize, protect and promote human rights. Canada actively supported the drafting of this document that was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948.
Thanks to the Declaration, there has been significant progress in the universal respect of civil and political rights, social and economic rights in Canada and around the world. But several obstacles still impede the full realization of human rights for all, and new threats to human rights have emerged in the 21st century.
This year, UN Human Rights Council is inviting everyone to reaffirm the importance of the Declaration’s enduring human rights principles and standards. Through it’s workshops, the JLP promotes respect, inclusion, non-discrimination and safety for all employees in the federal public service.
