Promote, Engage and Reflect on Human Rights
On December 10, 1948, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This Declaration marks the commitment of countries around the world to recognize, protect and promote human rights.
Thanks to the Declaration, significant progress has been made towards the universal respect for civil and political rights, social and economic rights in Canada and around the world. That said, many obstacles still impede the full realization of human rights for all, and new threats to human rights have emerged in the 21st century.
Over the past 18-months, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed deep and long-standing systemic inequities in our country. As we slowly emerge from the global pandemic, we must ensure that our world is a better and more equitable place for all.
This year, the UN Human Rights Council is calling on everyone to take action by recognizing the importance of human rights every day, expressing our commitment by taking stock of the state of human rights and reflecting on how each of us can stand up for them.
The JLP actively supports and promotes human rights through its various learning activities which put an emphasis on respect, inclusion, non-discrimination and safety for all employees in the federal public service.
