May is Jewish Heritage Month

Canadian Jewish Heritage Month was first proclaimed in 2018. This month offers an opportunity to recognize and reflect on the contributions of Jewish Canadians in shaping our country.

Although representing a relatively small portion of the population, Jewish Canadians have made significant contributions across many fields, including in business, politics, science, medicine, labour movement and the arts.

Over many generations, Jewish Canadians have faced adversity with resilience. Jewish workers across Canada have experienced workplace harassment and antisemitism, while continuing to contribute to discussions on fairness, equity, and workplace protections.

We remember the Holocaust and honour those who were killed and those who survived. We also recognize the ongoing responsibility to address antisemitism and all forms of racism. Antisemitism continues to affect Jewish workers in Canada, including in workplaces and unions, and can take the form of stereotypes, conspiracy theories, harassment, or threats.

The JLP is proud to offer workshops and guided discussions that examine these sometimes-overlooked histories. Throughout May, take some time to learn about Jewish culture, history and achievements. In sharing stories and learning about each other, we can build a better collective future.
