May 1, 2020 - International Workers' Day

May 1st marks International Workers’ Day.

The JLP recognizes the significance of this day. As a program whose mandate is to foster collaboration between labour and management in the federal public service, the JLP acknowledges that the struggle to improve working conditions for employees is ongoing. The Program’s unique structure – a genuine partnership between labour and management – fosters and models both clearer communication and a higher level of cooperation between the unions and the employer.

In these days of uncertainty and fear, the JLP would like to specifically recognize the workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only the doctors, first responders and nurses labouring tirelessly to help so many patients in distress, but also those who offer critical services such as store workers,  sanitation staff, delivery workers, and anyone else who is risking exposure to ensure the health and wellbeing of all Canadians. In addition, the JLP recognizes the work of federal public service workers drafting legislation, policies and implementing special measures that will keep Canadians safe in these very challenging times.

The JLP recognizes the importance of this day, especially during this unprecedented time, and acknowledges the work still required to attain better working conditions for all.
