A cross-Canada orientation session held in Ottawa

A special orientation session for new JLP facilitators took place in Ottawa September 16-20. The new cohort of facilitators hailed from across the country but were largely from agencies engaged in a strategic partnership with the JLP. These agencies are not part of the core administration, but they are training their own employees to facilitate JLP workshops in their agencies.

Such a refreshing methodology to discuss and “elevate” what could be challenging issues.  Very relatable and applicable.

Nadia Valérie Sbaihi, Union, ESDC

The bulk of the participants were therefore from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Canadian Securities Establishment (CSE). Participants from Health Canada, Public Safety and Employment and Development Canada (ESDC) rounded out the cohort.

The group’s intention to strengthen union-employer relationships was evident from the very beginning of the week. New work relationships were formed, and the participants were kind, supportive and encouraging of each other. Guests from CFIA and CSE representing both the union and the employer spoke with the participants on day three.

I am very excited to be included in this wonderful learning activity and working in collaboration with the Union. This was an amazing session and the facilitators did a fantastic job.

Charlene Vidito-Milne, Employer, CFIA

Learning activities focused on strengthening participants’ communication and facilitation skills. They were based on three JLP workshop kits: Preventing Harassment and Violence in the Workplace, Understanding the Collective Agreement, and Respecting Differences / Anti-Discrimination.

The JLP is delighted to welcome its newest facilitators and the new partnerships they represent!
