Reconnecting with public servants and managers in Yukon

The National Managers Community (NMC) held two Community Connect days in September in Whitehorse, Yukon in which the JLP attended. The event, held at Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, saw NMC members from across the public service attend learning events featuring approaches to mental health challenges in the workplace, and interactive sessions about reconciliation, Indigenization, and decolonization to inspire participants to apply a trauma-informed reconciliation lens in their leadership work in the public service.

The Regional Field Coordinators chat with an attendee at the National Managers Community Connect Day.Regional Field Coordinators (RFCs) Margot Cutcher (employer) and Michael Van Nen (union) hosted a JLP kiosk. They spoke with attendees about employee and supervisor benefits to participating in JLP workshops such as Respecting Differences /Anti Discrimination, Preventing Harassment and Violence in the Workplace, and Mental Health in the Workplace. Networking with participants directly allowed the RFCs to better understand the workplace context in the North.

In addition to their kiosk presence, the RFCs also facilitated two in-person workshops for several departments during their time in Whitehorse. They delivered Understanding the Collective Agreement as well as Mental Health in the Workplace. Participants appreciated the opportunity to interact and learn with their colleagues.

All in all, it was a golden opportunity to re establish relationships and promote the JLP directly in the territory for the first time in more than five years.
