On December 6, 2024, we mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This year, we reflect on the 35th anniversary of the tragic École polytechnique de Montréal massacre, where 14 young women were murdered simply because of their gender.

We honor the memory of these women, whose bright futures were stolen in an instant. We also remember the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, as well as all those who have been lost to femicide and gender-based violence.

Today, as we mourn their loss, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to combat the hatred and misogyny that led to this horrific tragedy—and the ongoing violence that continues to affect women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ individuals around the world. In Canada and globally, these individuals still face unacceptable levels of discrimination, violence, and marginalization.

On this National Day of Remembrance and Action, let us renew our dedication to creating safer, more inclusive workplaces where women can thrive free from fear. In support of this commitment, the JLP is offering a workshop, Preventing Harassment and Violence in the Workplace,” designed to raise awareness and provide actionable steps for building safe, respectful, and violence-free environments.

Together, we can take action, raise awareness, and work towards a future where all individuals are valued, safe, and free from violence.
